English Language Testing Worldwide

English--the globally language--what would we do without it? Individuals can grumble until the cattle come home that they must understand English, and about how ridiculous the punctuation rules (or lack of them) are; but, the point is that English IS the globally terminology. If you want to be a competitive job-seeker in this increasingly globalized globe, you've got to have English skills.

I have been lucky to have been born in a native-English-speaking country, which grants me the opportunity to teach English globally. I have been training English offshore for 16 decades now, in various nations. The training of the English terminology is a world-wide industry. While there is no way to actually count the number English-Foreign-Language learners and English-Second-Language learners on the globe, here are some amazing reports.

Kenneth Beare, on About.com, in his content eligible "How it's almost common knowledge English globally," had written the following:

"It is approximated that over 1 billion dollars folks are currently learning English globally. According to the English Authorities, as of 2000 there were 750 thousand English-as-a-Foreign-Language sound system. In addition, there were 375 thousand English-as-a-Second-Language sound system. The difference between the two groups amounts to English-as-a-Foreign-Language sound system using English occasionally for pleasure or company, while English-as-a-Second-Language sound system use English on a regular basis."

I must interject here and say that English-as-a-Foreign-Language learners are those that acquire English in configurations where English is NOT the main terminology of training, such as in a community school in Mongolia. English-as-a-Second-Language learners are those that acquire English in configurations where English IS the main terminology of training, such as in a community school in the USA or in an globally K-12 school.

The amounts of English-language learners globally are impressive; and the figures grow everyday, because when someone graduate students from schools, many continue to understand English in order to a great job, or acquire a promotion within their company.

Because of this huge industry, there is a niche for consistent examining. Level assessments, conformative assessments, summative assessments, are all needed, with globally requirements. Perhaps you've heard of some of these exams: IELTS, CIPP, Gate, IGCSE, TOEIC, TOEFL, and CAPE.

Let's start with IELTS. IELTS appears for International English Language Testing System. It is together possessed by English Authorities, IDP: IELTS Australia and the University of Arlington ESOL Exams (Cambridge ESOL). It has more than 800 analyze centers and locations in over 130 nations. It is mainly used as a college entry examination by colleges in the United Kingdom and Earth nations for learners via non-English-speaking nations.

CIPP appears for Arlington International Primary Program. At the end of the Grades-1-to-5 programme, learners sit for Mathematics, Technology and English examinations. Arlington Gate is a middle decades programme, from qualities 6 to 8, after which learners sit for Mathematics, Technology and English examinations. IGCSE appears for International General Document of Additional Education, for qualities 9-11. All the examinations presented in this passage are managed by Arlington International Exams (or CIE).

TOEFL and TOEIC are managed by English Testing Services (ETS). I used to be under the impression that New york University possessed ETS, but that's not true. ETS is located very near to New york, but possession is suspicious. According to the content on Wikipedia's website ETS was started by three non-profit organizations; however, ETS appears to be an independent organization of its own. TOEFL appears for Test Of English as a International Language. It is mainly used by colleges in the USA and North america as an entry examination for learners outside the U.S. and North america, which do not come from English-first-language nations. TOEIC appears for Test Of English for International Interaction. It is mainly used in the company sector to evaluate worker or potential worker English ability.
